Software Engineer IV

Kansas City, Missouri, United States

Development

Job Description

The Identity and Access Management (IAM) team within Cerner Engineering is responsible for R&D related to the next generation of Cerner solutions--web-based applications and services. The R&D focuses on leveraging open standards and interoperable technologies (such as Java) to make the infrastructure as agile and adaptable as possible--enabling choices during system deployment and providing the opportunity to lower total cost of ownership (TCO) for Cerner's solutions. The team's work has focused on the crucial topics of identity and security - how to identify the various people, devices, and systems that make up the cloud; how to allow them to securely communicate with one other; how to track what they do, etc. Our infrastructure has been crucial to the success of numerous high-profile projects, including Cerner's new generation of mobile applications for iOS/Android, Cerner's Population Health initiative ("HealtheIntent"), Cerner's FHIR-based open API platform ("Ignite"). We serve as consultants and sources of expertise to a wide variety of other development and operations teams as they develop the next generation of Cerner's architectures. We have also led many of Cerner's efforts to achieve continuous delivery of innovation. The IAM team has long championed agile development approaches at Cerner, and has helped bring many new development methodologies and tools to Cerner. Our engineers are expected to continue the trend of looking outside Cerner to bring new ideas in. They are encouraged to attend industry conventions, participate in open source development communities, and pursue research projects on promising new technologies. As a Software Engineer IV at Cerner, you will help lead the development of our solutions within the team. You will be responsible for designing software (primarily in Java and related languages) in order to meet specific requirements. As an important part in the quality of our solutions, you will be asked to participate in peer to peer design/code reviews. Even though this role will be primarily developing new software, you will also be asked to work on bug fixes, testing, documentation, support, and troubleshooting as needed. Cerner is a results-driven company and you will be expected to complete projects according to predetermined deadlines. You will play a lead role in an agile team that works with engineers of varying experience levels.
