Senior Product Regulatory Strategist - Accessibility

Job Description

Cerner is looking to hire a Senior Product Regulatory Strategist specializing in software accessibility design and development best practices. We are looking for someone with familiarity of U.S. Federal accessibility requirements, international standards (Section 508, WCAG, EN 301 549 etc.) and how to apply them within the organization.

With an increasing number of regulatory programs that have a major impact on the delivery and payment of healthcare in the US, the Regulatory Strategy Team helps Cerner associates and clients navigate the review of regulatory legislation and to ensure clients meet regulatory requirements through sound Cerner strategies. The Regulatory Strategy Team provides a cohesive approach for federal regulatory developments ranging from HIPAA to CMS Conditions of Participation and Payment System Rules to 2015 Edition Certification requirements, and one-off research projects for understanding topics as diverse as Rural Health billing and drug safety. We pay close attention to regulations which impact Cerner solutions across the healthcare continuum.

In this position as a Senior Product Regulatory Strategist, you will drive accessibility vision through interpretation of regulatory and accrediting agency guidelines. You will ensure all content types can be consumed by users of accessible technology, provide guidance on a variety of software platforms to ensure accessibility and usability compliance, and understand how assistive technologies work with current and future software architectures, other assistive technologies, and other programs. You will be able to write, communicate, and integrate regulatory and accessibility roadmaps across the corporate portfolio in partnership with stakeholders.

Basic Qualifications
  • At least 8 years total combined related work experience and completed higher education, including:
    • At least 2 years of compliance, regulatory and/or quality management work experience
    • At least 6 years of additional work experience directly related to the duties of the job and/or completed higher education

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Working experience with web development technologies, including HTML, JavaScript, and CSS.
  • At least 2 years of experience working with Assistive Technologies
  • At least 2 years of work experience focused primarily on Accessibility
  • Experience with Voluntary Product Accessibility Templates (VPATs)

  • Reside in the Kansas City metropolitan area or live within 60 miles of a major, regional/international airport

  • Possesses advanced knowledge of Section 508 and how to apply it to software and technical documentation
  • Conducts in depth reviews and assessments of software and web applications to identify areas of non-conformity as well as areas that require modifications/improvements
  • Offers advisory consultation internally on accessibility best practices and education
  • Familiarity with accessibility testing practices and methodologies
  • Review of functional and technical requirements for accessibility integration
  • Remediate PDF, MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint documents for accessibility
  • Willing to travel up to 10-20% as needed
  • Willing to work additional or irregular hours as needed and allowed by local regulations
  • Work in accordance with corporate and organizational security policies and procedures, understand personal role in safeguarding corporate and client assets, and take appropriate action to prevent and report any compromises of security within scope of position
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned
