Job Description

Technical Support Engineers (TSE) provide support on specific software, hardware, and/or system solutions and applications and are responsible for incident investigation and resolution. The TSE uses technical knowledge to understand the structure and location of the issue while being able to read and follow the basic code or application structure. They are knowledgeable and understand the functionality of existing platforms and/or applications.

  • Use technical knowledge in the support, incident investigation and resolution for specific software, hardware or system solutions and applications.
  • Investigate, analyze, resolve or escalate incidents and service requests via phone
  • Prioritize and manage work volume in accordance with service level agreements
  • Demonstrates the ability to work on multiple mission critical incidents simultaneously and prioritize work to stabilize system or application recovery
  • Attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills for direct client contact, internal and external
  • Thoroughly document investigation and issue resolution
  • Use appropriate escalation paths to triage issues to second-level resources for resolution
  • Investigate and diagnose complex performance issues on client domains and participate in problem management to identify recurring issues
  • Effectively contribute to and use knowledge base and identify opportunities for process improvements
  • Work with Cerner suppliers in the maintenance and performance of assigned applications, hardware and systems
  • Able to communicate effectively with senior levels of client and Cerner leadership
  • Possess decision making skills as well as the ability to deal with ambiguity
  • Strong analytic and problem solving abilities

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in CIS, MIS, Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent relevant work experience
  • Systems monitoring or system support engineering work experience, At least 3 years

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in the following areas: Linux, Networking, AIX, Citrix, Windows, WebSphere Application Server, Oracle Application Server, Hadoop, SQL scripting or Cloudera

Expectations
  • May be required to lift up to 20 lbs., i.e. server, network equipment
  • Willing to work a rotating shift from 7pm-7am or 7am-7pm (days, nights or weekends)
